Troubadour Productions was established in 1985 in Silverton Road, Durban.
It started off in a very small way with about 100 costumes. Slowly the
stock grew as a number of dramatic societies ceased operations and offered to
sell their costumes to us or donate them in the sure knowledge that they
would continue to be appreciated in a “theatrical” sense.
The building in Silverton Road was demolished in June 1991 when
Troubadour moved to larger premises, occupying on the top floor of 292 Jan Smuts
Highway in Mayville. By this time, the business had expanded and Peter
Gardner was making his name known as a reliable and efficient artistes’
agent as well as a casting agent for film and television productions.
Being an actor and a former trumpet player, he understands the
entertainment business from the artiste’s point of view. A no-nonsense businessman, he
also has an understanding of the law inherited from his father who is a
retired lawyer and his late grandfather who was a judge.
In June 1999, Troubadour moved to even larger and more secure premises –
a block or two up the road, to 286 Jan Smuts Highway. We’re easy to find –
just look for the star-spangled sign.
